Lego for dinner.

Paris-based design duo Munchausen, comprised of Simon Pillard and Philippe Rosetti, took an Ikea kitchen island and covered it with more than 20,000 pieces of Lego. The eye-popping kitchen makes quite the statement, but probably isn’t fit for you to install in a house with children; never mind them drawing on the walls, now you’ve gotta worry about Junior dismantling the cabinetry?

Pencils do it better

wtpc_images_features_ricklee_holy-fucking-ghost12

Rik Lee is a freelance illustrator who lives and draws in Melbourne. After the completion of his degree in Graphic Design, he decided to concentrate on his real passion – illustration. His work uses icons and images that reflect and categorise particular eras, genres and subcultures. He explores the symbolism of certain objects and the narratives you can achieve through combining and/or juxtaposing these objects. His use of soft pastel colours don’t overpower his light and delicate pencil work, and it was here that I first found myself attracted to his compositions.

Pencil seems his favorite medium. Experimenting with different mediums is not out of the question but he always seem to return to the trusty pencil box.

“As far as the process goes, I almost always begin with pencil drawings of elements. I build the composition with these pencil drawings and then add colour and detail with other mediums. I have a whole bunch of mediums that I like to use, textas, ink, water colour, photoshop…. just whatever seems to work at the time really”

His style usually defined by the mediums he uses, and his past and current influences, seems to maintain its modern edge over the years “I’ve tried to combine these influences with the modern interests like skateboarding, punk rock, teen angst and graphic design.” Each illustration a clash of elements, influences & social trends. Looks like he will be round to stay.

Classic Design & Typography.

There is something about buying a new book. Is it the smell of new paper or perhaps the instant desire to run your hand over the freshly pressed cover? Smiles form on dials worldwide and David Pearson is the magician behind these grins.

London based Pearson calls himself a typographer & book designer, but it is not just through my rose-tinted glasses that I think his clean & colourful designs spring from genius. Pearson has won at least three design awards a year for the last four years – it’s Pearson’s collaboration with Pengiun that really made him stand out on the map & make me want to bury myself under my doona wth a stack of fresh classics & a teapot of milky tea.

In this age of technology there is no doubt that Pearson is bringing books back.

Gorgeous sewing patters for children.

I love to sew and these gorgeous patterns are so easy to make. Do you remember the paper dolls when you were little that looked like this. They have sweet faces and the colour choice takes be back to when I was a little girl. Something about the seventies in these designs and patterns.
