Fresco supporting all things green

We love all things green at Fresco. I recently bought each of my staff a ‘Keep Cup’. Like all graphic designers we burn the midnight oil and the odd caffeine hit is necessary (part of the job description really). This is a small thing we can do to help. Also being designers the design of anything that enters our studio is super important… these little cups are beautiful. I just didn’t realise the discussion involved when it came to choosing a cup. The correct colour combination an important factor to consider for any discerning graphic designer.

Disposable paper cups are not recyclable. The paper cup is made from a composite of materials: kraft bleached paper sprayed with a polyethylene coating.  Paper cups are often impregnated with toxic dyes which make them difficult to recycle. The plastic lining in disposable paper cups means they are not recyclable. In arid regions like Australia, biodegradation of a paper cup can take 50 years or more. It’s not just the cup and lid that go into landfill.  On average, each disposable cup contains 5% of the raw materials involved in the process of making and delivering it.It is a choice. We can destroy fewer trees and reduce landfill, CO2 and energy output. Small acts can make a big difference – for better and for worse.  The environmental impact of all single use items is great.  Through good design and a little effort we can easily incorporate reuse into our daily routine.

Find out how to buy your own go to http://www.keepcup.com.au we think it is fabulous.

Clarissa in Cambodia

cambodiafresco-holidayBefore joining the Fresco team in August, I was travelling throughout South East Asia, although spending most of my time in Siem Reap, Cambodia. I was helping out at a centre for street children which provides refuge, care and education for close to 80 under-privileged children. Everyday brought new challenges, trying to teach art/creative workshops and assisting in english classes… but it was so much fun!! The children are so endearing and inspirational. It was an amazing adventure!
