Over the 3rd and 4th of April this yearI was lucky enough to attend the Semi Permanent Design Conference, Sydney. This years line up was a stunning array of some of our industries best and brightest including Melbourne’s XYZ studios and high fashion photographer Daniela Federici. Some highlights of the event were meeting the well know artist John English and gaining a better insight to his highly publicised political public art. There was also an inspirational presentation from Timba Smiths Art Director and Owner of Wooden Toy Quarterly – This design magazine has a cult following, it pushes
Another great kickback for working as a designer in Surry Hills is that have just learnt that one of my favourite artists Brett Whiteley has his Studio just around the corner. This is the studio where he lived & worked when he was producing some of his most influencial art works. I find that when I’ve got my nose to the grind stone working on annual reports or other large layout documents, its great to get inspired by more free form art.Whiteley’s use of colour and free brush strokes is a balm for the soul! So whenever you are in the areabe sure to drop in and take a look.To ch
There are so many great things about working in Surry Hills; the creative vibe, great cafe culture, fantastic shopping and most definitely number one would be the pleasure of working opposite Vini Enoteca Wine and Italian Food Bar! Its our little bit of Melbourne laneway dining on our very own Holt Street and we love it. Next time you come to the studio to visit make sure you pop in for a quick glass of Montepulciano and be sure to try the espresso pannacotta! Be sure to check out their delectable delights at www.vini.com.au Triscia (01/04/09)

Never one to say no to La Dolce Vita, we jumped at the chance to design a piece for the Italian Chamber of Commerce’s Design of Excellence night. With visions of Vespas, Gelato, and Dean Martin belting out “That’s Amore” we created the invite and overall theme and feel for the night. The event was held down at Wharf 7 where the Camparis and Peronis flowed freely and sharply dressed Italians floated between Missoni designs and Gelatissimo delights. Great night!
As a designer its important to keep your brain ticking and thinking laterally. Freerice.com is a website which does just that… and is doing its bit to help end the world hunger crisis. If you have 5 minutes to spare… give it a go! You might learn something new!
