Masada College is a co-educational school in Sydney’s North Shore, and we were delighted to have been involved with their marketing department in the design of the school’s yearbook for a number of years now. For the latest edition our graphic designers focused on Masada’s motto, “open to all”, to create a publication filled with images reflecting the wonderful diversity of the student body’s achievements throughout the year. We allowed these many achievements to speak for themselves, designing a layout that framed images and text elegantly without over-crowding.
Yearbooks such as Masada College’s are keepsakes for the students, staff and community alike, and it’s important that these publications feel like a celebration of the year’s achievements rather than as a report summary of the year past. The front and back covers of the latest yearbook express the year’s theme of “ONE vision, ONE team” with direct-to-camera group portraits of Masada students. These images have the dual effect of presenting the students who make up the college’s diversity, while also including the reader as part of Masada’s wider community.
When designing yearbooks for schools, we develop a layout that is going to carry a large volume of photos without feeling like a static grid. To achieve this in the Masadian, our graphic designers implemented a dynamic layout throughout the publication, selecting and placing varying sizes and numbers of images amongst clean white space so that each page was unique yet unified. To complete the Masadian, we added a page header in the school’s brand colours as well as leaf elements drawn from Masada College’s school emblem.
