Looking beneath the surface for design inspiration

Sometimes inspiration can come from unusual places. This image by Carsten Peter of Speleoresearch & Films proves that the planet had taste half a million years ago. Mexico’s secret Cueva de los Cristales was discovered in 2000 by some brothers armed with a drill. What sounds like a horror movie was actually the start of an amazing discovery. It’s a geometry student’s heaven and a typesetter’s hell.

“Carsten Peter specializes in photographing places inhospitable to humans—and cameras. He long ago lost count of how many he has ruined doing his job.” National Geographic.
