Surry Hills – A Mecca for Graphic Design and Creative Inspiration

If you’ve been in the habit of reading my blogs for the last year or so you would of realised I love working in Surryhills; the great Melbourne style cafes and eateries, clothes shops to excite the most hardcore fashionista, groovy wine bars and pubs, but mostly its the creative buzz that Surry Hills vibrates with that I love the most. There are art galleries and designers/ creatives of every ilk on every corner, creative inspiration is only ever a stones throw away.

This week I want to talk about the Ray Huges Gallery just around the corner from our design studio on Devonshire street and a photographic exhibition that is happening there at the moment. Martin Mischkuling is currently exhibiting a collection of his photographs titled Small Town. The series of photographs “capture an image of Australia that is neither postcard typical or bleakly cynical. The small towns of Western Australia and Martin’s native South Australia, are neither thriving cosmopolitan metropolises nor vacuous cultural backwaters. Martin’s eye has captured the rugged images of what might be remote, but honest communities”. A nice juxtaposition with the funky urbanites of Surry Hills!
